From NICU Journeys to Grateful Moments: Embracing Me Time as a Mum

Motherhood is a journey filled with unexpected turns, challenges, and moments of pure love. For me, it’s been a road marked by the early arrival of my three little ones each with their own unique story.
My first baby was born at just 29 weeks, spending a harrowing 53 days in the NICU. Those days felt endless, filled with worry, hope, and a fierce determination to see him thrive.
My third baby arrived at 36 weeks and needed three weeks of NICU care, relying on CPAP and high-flow oxygen to help his tiny lungs adjust to the world.
And my second, a precious surprise, was born at 36 weeks and came home with no issues. But it was a tough journey going into labor regularly, doctors stopping my labor, hospital bed rest for weeks on end, returning home only to experience bleeding, then labor starting and stopping again. Back to hospital bed rest. During this pregnancy, the doctors gave me two doses of steroids to help develop her lungs just to make sure she wouldn’t struggle as much as my first did when he entered the world. It was a testament to the progress of modern care and the strength of tiny fighters.
Today, I’m the proud mum of three healthy, thriving children ages 6, 5, and 4. But if I’ve learned anything from those early days, it’s that mothers carry an invisible load. We shoulder the fear of preterm labor, the exhaustion of NICU visits, and the mental weight of balancing family life while navigating our own health.
That’s why I’m learning to embrace gratitude and me time. After years of worrying about my pregnancies and the health of my babies, I’ve realized how essential it is to pause and care for myself. Whether it’s enjoying a quiet cup of tea, taking a few deep breaths, or simply stepping outside for a walk—these moments of me time are not indulgences. They’re lifelines.
